FA Have No Internal Discussions Over Thomas Tuchel's Future After England's World
The Football Association is not discussing Thomas Tuchel's future despite England's disappointing World Cup exit, with the German still contracted until UEFA Euro 2028.
Despite the disappointment surrounding England's latest World Cup campaign, there have been no discussions within the Football Association about Thomas Tuchel's future as national team manager.
According to Sky Sports News chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol, the FA remains committed to Tuchel, who signed a new two-year contract extension before the tournament that keeps him in charge through UEFA Euro 2028.
The update offers a clear indication that England's governing body is not preparing for an immediate managerial change, even after expectations surrounding the World Cup were not fully met.
Before the tournament, FA chief executive Mark Bullingham acknowledged that Tuchel's contract contains performance-related clauses. However, Solhekol explained there is currently no suggestion those provisions are being acted upon.
Bullingham also revealed that the agreement includes protections for the FA should Tuchel become the target of a major club after achieving significant success with England. The intention was to ensure long-term stability rather than leave the national team vulnerable to losing its head coach midway through a project.
At the same time, Bullingham admitted that certain contractual targets exist, meaning there are circumstances in which Tuchel's position could theoretically come under review if agreed objectives were not achieved.
However, Sky Sports News reports there have been no conversations inside the FA regarding the manager's future.
England's campaign ultimately ended with a third-place finish, an outcome that fell short of hopes of lifting the trophy but was nevertheless described as a respectable achievement given the standard of international competition.
That context appears important in understanding the FA's current stance. Rather than reacting emotionally to tournament disappointment, the governing body is understood to be maintaining the longer-term plan established before the competition began.
Tuchel was appointed with the objective of helping England convert years of tournament consistency into major silverware. His contract extension before the World Cup demonstrated confidence in that vision, and the latest update suggests that confidence has not been abandoned after one tournament.
